Early Childhood Education is a critical time in a child’s life, and it sets the foundation for their future
success. It will tell how successful the person would be as an entrepreneur, educationist,
businessman, scientist, engineer or doctor. Investing in quality Early Childhood Education
programmes have a positive impact on a child’s future academic, social, and emotional
development.
Merits of Early Childhood Education:
ï‚· Improves academic performance. They perform better in school; have better literacy and
numeracy skills.
ï‚· Gives children opportunities to interact with their peers and develop important social skills,
such as sharing, taking turns, and working together; if the child stays at home in the
company of parents/grandparents, these basic skills are not developed. The child remains
the centre of attention all the time, thus preventing him/her from mingling with peers.
ï‚· Supports emotional development. Interacting among the peers help develop their
emotional intelligence and build resilience, which are very critical for success in life.
ï‚· It lays a strong foundation for learning, besides which, it lays a strong platform they need to
succeed in school and in life. It develops in them critical thinking skills, creativity and
increases self-worth of an individual.
Investing in Early Childhood Education is important in shaping a child’s future success. This
investment will be beneficial for children and families and the society, as the person won’t be a
burden on the society, but an asset.
To conclude, I would say, that parents are more liberal, broadminded to send their children or
grandchildren to school as early as possible and it will lay a strong foundation for your child. He/she
will be emotionally matured, self-reliant and dependable.
National Education Policy (NEP) has recommended Early Childhood Education. It begins at the age of
THREE. It is up to us parents/grandparents to lead our child to school. Let them be in the company of
peers and mature into emotionally dependable adults.
A child who is above three years does become a misfit among the students of Nursery and chances
are that he/she becomes a bully as he/she is physically strong and emotionally dependent on family.
Aims of Early Childhood Education is to ensure each child is valued, respected, feels safe and secure
and develops a positive self-concept. It enables a sound foundation for physical and motor
development.
